Amazon Member Reviews - Cat and Mouse (Alex Cross)
At first I enjoyed reading this largely due to the short chapter, fast paced format. Soon it became clear that the characters were one dimensional, that they followed on from previous novels and that the plot was threadbare. The fact that the heroes and villans history is re-told somewhat in the telling of this story, would disuade me from reading earlier novels in the series in itself but the writing is so painfully childish I don't think I'll be reading any more of Patterson's future novels either. Very disappointing.

Great holiday read, typical James Paterson book, gripping from the first page to the last page.

This is the fourth in the series of Alex Cross stories, and while I have enjoyed the others, this wasnt as good.
Whilst the change of track half way through the book was interesting, it didnt grip me, however the ending wasn't expected and leaves you wanting to read the next book.
This book also had the shortest chapters I have ever read!!
Not the best, but I have read a lot worse.

Patterson mixes it up again with multiple (and international) psychopaths on the rampage. One of which is his old nemesis, Gary Soneji. There are some great action scenes in Cat and Mouse and Patterson captures the the tension well. As expected, the actual profiling of the criminal mind is shallow, and the main characters are somewhat superficial too, although existing readers will know what to expect - action and intrigue. Patterson fans will not be disappointed since Cat and Mouse has plenty of both. Longer than usual, Cat and Mouse is two stories interwoven and together they make an entertaining read.

This is the fourth in James Patterson's Alex Cross series. And here we catch up with Cross as once again crazed serial killer Gary Soneji is making his life a misery. But Soneji isn't the only killer plaguing Cross' life; Cross is also being harassed by Mr. Smith, a mysterious murderer tallying up the body count in numerous countries around the globe. So there we have it. With two murderers to take up all of Alex's time you'd think this would be another fast paced and exciting read from Patterson, unfortunately you'd be sorely mistaken. There was not once, throughout the 500 + pages that I truly really cared what would happen with this story. It failed to capture me in total and yet again I began to get annoyed with almost every character featured as they're all so laughably one dimensional it made my skin crawl with some of the dialogue.
It's a shame because after the third book; Jack and Jill which I thoroughly enjoyed, I thought Patterson had finally ironed out a few kinks from his first books and was back on track with an enjoyable and thrilling series. When, in reality Jack and Jill was a fluke. 'Cat * Mouse' is in my oppinion the worst in the series so far. Patterson has shown he's capable of some really good books but this one was just a let down.
